Welcome to our premium Aotea collection, featuring one-off taonga crafted by our Ngāti Māhaki artisans. Each piece is crafted from Aotea ethically gathered within the takiwā of Ngāti Māhaki, offering customers confidence in its provenance. As collective kaitiaki, Ngāti Māhaki promote sustainable practices that support customary collection, hapū development and the livelihoods of whānau craftspeople. We are proud to offer genuine Aotea, carefully selected and crafted to be worn, treasured and passed down through generations.

Description: Aotea is a name used to describe a rare combination of minerals, including kyanite, fuchsite and white quartz, with only one source in the Southern Hemisphere. Its natural mineral layering makes every piece unique. Aotea is protected under a Crown minerals permit held by Ngāti Māhaki. Removing Aotea without whakapapa and/or a permit issued by the hapū is illegal.

Authentic pieces are now available through Westland Greenstone and approved Ngāti Māhaki artisans. Each piece carries an authenticity code verifying its provenance, along with official Ngāi Tahu Pounamu traceability and certification.
