Fayne Robinson
Collection: Fayne Robinson

Fayne Robinson is a renowned Ngāi Tahu master carver who was born and raised in Hokitika. He graduated from the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua in 1984 and has since developed an internationally recognised practice spanning pounamu, stone and wood.

Fayne’s work brings together traditional knowledge and a distinctive contemporary style. Over more than four decades, he has contributed to numerous whare whakairo and significant public artworks, including the wharenui at Te Tauraka Waka a Māui Marae in Mahitahi and Tūhuru at Arahura Marae. His carvings reflect a deep commitment to whakairo, whakapapa and the continuation of Māori artistic traditions.
