Caleb Robinson is a Ngāi Tahu carver raised in Hokitika, whose practice encompasses pounamu and traditional whakairo. After training through a six-year marae development project, Caleb worked closely with his uncle, master carver Fayne Robinson, developing his skills while establishing a creative practice of his own.
His work is grounded in whakapapa, tikanga and the distinctive materials of Te Waipounamu. Caleb has contributed to significant collaborative projects, including carving rare Tahutahi pounamu pendants for New Zealand’s Olympic and Paralympic teams. Through each piece, he continues the intergenerational practice of whakairo while creating taonga with their own identity and story.
